Terms of Service

Last updated: March 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using StoicLock (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you (“you” or “user”) and StoicLock (“we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, which governs how we collect and use your data.

2. Description of Service

StoicLock is a screen time management and Stoic philosophy application that provides:

  • App blocking via Apple's Screen Time API and FamilyControls framework
  • Focus timer with Pomodoro and Deep Focus modes
  • Journaling and reflection tools (morning, evening, gratitude, voice)
  • Memento Mori life visualization
  • Stoic philosophy content including quotes, wisdom, and archetype-based personalization
  • Analytics and insights on your focus and discipline habits

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use StoicLock. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you are at least 13 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

StoicLock's FamilyControls integration is used for individual, self-directedscreen time management only — it is not designed or intended as a parental control tool for managing a child's device.

4. Account Registration & Security

4.1 Account Creation

To access most features, you must create an account using one of our supported authentication methods (Apple Sign-In, Google Sign-In, or email/password). You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current information during registration
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account
  • Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account

4.2 One Account Per User

Each user may maintain one active StoicLock account. We reserve the right to merge or remove duplicate accounts.

5. Subscriptions & Payments

5.1 Free & Premium Tiers

StoicLock offers both free and premium (“StoicLock Pro”) features. Some features require an active premium subscription.

5.2 Subscription Plans

Premium subscriptions are available as:

  • Monthly — billed monthly
  • Annual — billed annually
  • Lifetime — one-time purchase, no recurring billing

5.3 Billing & Auto-Renewal

  • All subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store and managed via RevenueCat
  • Monthly and Annual subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period
  • Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period
  • We do not directly process payments or have access to your payment card information

5.4 Cancellation

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings (Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions) or through the App Store
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain access to premium features until then
  • We cannot process cancellations on your behalf; all subscription management is handled through Apple

5.5 Refunds

  • Refund requests must be directed to Apple through their App Store refund process (reportaproblem.apple.com)
  • We do not have the ability to issue refunds directly, as all payment processing is handled by Apple
  • Lifetime purchases are non-refundable after 14 days, subject to Apple's refund policies

5.6 Price Changes

We may change subscription pricing at any time. Price changes for existing subscribers will take effect at the start of the next billing period following reasonable notice. You will have the opportunity to cancel before the new price takes effect.

5.7 Free Trial

If offered, a free trial converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Trial eligibility is determined by Apple and limited to one trial per Apple ID.

7.2 License You Grant Us

By creating content in StoicLock, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, transmit, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing and improving the App's services to you. This means:

  • We store your content on our servers so you can access it across sessions

8.3 Feedback

If you provide us with suggestions, ideas, or feedback about the App, you grant us the right to use that feedback without restriction or compensation. You are under no obligation to provide feedback.

9. Screen Time & App Blocking Disclaimer

9.1 Reliance on Apple Frameworks

StoicLock's app-blocking functionality depends entirely on Apple's Screen Time API, FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, and DeviceActivityMonitor frameworks. These are system-level frameworks controlled by Apple, not by us.

9.2 No Guarantee of Blocking Effectiveness

We do not and cannot guarantee that app blocking will work perfectly, continuously, or at all. Blocking may fail, be interrupted, or behave unexpectedly due to:

  • iOS updates that change Screen Time API behavior
  • System-level conflicts or bugs in Apple's frameworks
  • Device restarts, low power mode, or background process limitations
  • User revocation of Screen Time authorization
  • Apple policy changes affecting the FamilyControls entitlement
  • Any other factors outside our reasonable control

9.3 No Liability for Blocking Failures

You acknowledge that StoicLock is a self-discipline tool, not a guaranteed enforcement mechanism. We are not liable for any consequences arising from the App failing to block apps as configured, including but not limited to:

  • Lost productivity or wasted time
  • Academic, professional, or personal consequences
  • Addiction relapse or failure to meet personal goals
  • Any other damages arising from reliance on the blocking feature

9.4 Screen Time Authorization

App blocking requires your explicit authorization via Apple's system prompt. You may revoke this authorization at any time in iOS Settings. Revoking authorization will disable all blocking functionality.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • MERCHANTABILITY
  • FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
  • NON-INFRINGEMENT
  • ACCURACY OR RELIABILITY OF CONTENT
  • UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION

StoicLock is a productivity and philosophical reflection tool. It is NOT:

  • A medical device or health application
  • A substitute for professional mental health treatment, therapy, or counseling
  • A clinical tool for diagnosing or treating any condition
  • A guaranteed solution for screen addiction or time management

If you are experiencing mental health difficulties, please contact a qualified healthcare professional.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:

  • We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App
  • We shall not be liable for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or other intangible losses
  • Our total aggregate liability for all claims arising from or related to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or fifty US dollars ($50), whichever is greater
  • We are not liable for any third-party actions, including actions by Apple, Supabase, RevenueCat, or authentication providers

These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise) and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless StoicLock, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the App
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Any content you create or upload through the App
  • Your use or misuse of the Screen Time and app-blocking features

13. Account Termination

13.1 Termination by You

You may stop using StoicLock and request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at getstoiclock@gmail.com. Upon account deletion:

  • All your personal data, journal entries, voice recordings, and content will be permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days
  • Your subscription (if active) must be cancelled separately through Apple
  • This action is irreversible

13.2 Termination by Us

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms of Service
  • You engage in fraudulent or abusive behavior
  • Your use of the App threatens the security or integrity of our services
  • Required by law or legal process

We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination, except where prohibited by law or where immediate action is necessary to protect our services.

13.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the App ceases immediately
  • Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive (including Sections 7.2, 8, 10, 11, 12, and 15)

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:

  • Posting the updated Terms within the App
  • Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document

Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you disagree with any changes, your sole remedy is to stop using the App and delete your account.

15. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

15.1 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

15.2 Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith informal negotiation by contacting us at getstoiclock@gmail.com.

If informal resolution fails within 30 days, either party may pursue resolution through the courts of competent jurisdiction.

15.3 Class Action Waiver

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not as part of a class, consolidated, or representative action.

16. General Provisions

16.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and StoicLock regarding the App.

16.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

16.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

16.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.

16.5 Force Majeure

We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of government, internet outages, or changes to Apple's platform or APIs.
